چکیده

The application of ion-exclusion chromatography to desugarization of molasses has been investigated in the beet sugar industry for many years and is now being applied routinely to sucrose recovery. Recent work on the desugarization of molasses from cane processing has been carried out and a large-scale system is under construction. Ion-exclusion chromatographic processes are very efficient for removal of cations, inorganic anions, organic acid anions and polysaccharides from molasses, as shown by nonsucrose elimination data from pilot tests on cane molasses. The possible application of ion-exclusion chromatography to raw cane juices is discussed briefly.

Non-sugar Removal in the Molasses and Raw Juice Chromatographic Separation Processes (assbt 1995)

The Amalgamated Sugar Company has been involved for years in the application of ion exclusion chromatography to the enhanced recovery of sucrose from sugarbeet process streams. Laboratory-scale tests of a simulated moving bed chromatography system for sucrose recovery from sugarbeet molasses were initiated in August 1981 and pilot scale tests were begun shortly thereafter. The technology develo...

Refnement of Cane Molasses with Membrane Technology for Clarifcation and Color Removal

Recovery of sugars from cane molasses (i.e. the by-product of sugar industries) is of great interest to industry and academia. The prerequisite for refning cane molasses is removal of pigments and suspended solids present in the molasses. In this work, the utilization of membrane separation for clarifcation and decoloration of cane molasses has been examined. Three oper...

Determination of sugarcane deterioration at the factory: Development of a rapid, easy and inexpensive enzymatic method to measure mannitol

Mannitol, formed mainly by Leuconostoc mesenteroides bacteria, is a very sensitive indicator of sugarcane deterioration that directly affects processing and can predict problems from dextran and levan polysaccharides. An enzymatic method has been developed to measure mannitol in juice pressed from consignments of sugarcane delivered to the factory. This screening tool will allow factory staff t...

The effect of sugar cane molasses on the immune and male reproductive systems using in vitro and in vivo methods

Objective(s): Sugar cane molasses is a commonly used ingredient in several food products. Contrasting reports suggest that molasses may have potential adverse or beneficial effects on human health. However, little evidence exists that examines the effects of molasses on the different physiological systems. This study investigated the effects of sugar cane molasses on various physiological syste...

Effect of Storage Temperature and Light on the Freeze-Dried Amino Acids from Sugar Beet and Sugar Cane Molasses

Molasses is a significant by-product of sugar beet or sugar cane refining industry. In this work, the effects of storage temperature and packaging on the contents of free amino acids (AAs) in sugar beet and sugar cane molasses after freeze drying were inquired. The effect of different variables such as, temperature (4 and 25˚C) and light (Metallized polypropylene container and Normal polypropyl...
